I had a serious problem with my Ubuntu 10.04 in browsing the computers on my LAN. I can’t see the shared folders on my workgroup PCs which are running Microsoft Windows 7. When I tried to open Ubuntu Network, I had an error message saying “Unable to mount location failed to retrieve share list from server”. I searched a lot online to find out the real cause of this till I found some actions should be done in Ubuntu Linux to be able to browse your LAN Clients and resources.
1- Press Alt+F2 to start Run Application.
2- Type gksu gedit /etc/nsswitch.conf and click Run.
3- Search for the line : hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4
4- Now add the word Winbind to look like this:

5- Click on Save and close the file.
6- Open your Terminal and type : sudo apt-get install winbind to install Winbind Package.

Before you start working on Ubuntu or any Linux distro, you need to install some packages and updates to be able to use the system smoothly and easily without any headaches. In this article I’m gonna focus on Ubuntu 10.4 (LTS). It’s amazingly stable release supported for three years on your PC or Laptop and it’s a great choice for the one who needs more stability in a wide Linux environment. Now let’s get to work and to see the tricks that we can do to make it perfect.
1- Installing Microsoft Core Fonts:
The first thing you will notice in Ubuntu’s web browser ( Mozilla Firefox ) during surfing the web is that all websites appear with strange font for you, not like what you got used in Windows 7. You will find out that Microsoft True Type fonts are missing. (Arial, Comic Sans, Impact, Time New Roman). So, to install it, all what you need is to go to Applications Menu and click on Ubuntu Software Center. It will appear as shown.
At the top right in Search box write True Type. The result will appear as shown down.
Now select Installer for Microsoft True Type core fonts and click Install.
Wait till it finishes the installation and then surf the Internet to see the changes.
Done.
2- Installing Ubuntu Tweaks:
For some legal policies, Ubuntu can’t integrate multimedia codecs in the system or to keep it at the repositories. That’s why you will face a problem when try to play some video files like .rmvb or .xvid. So the solution is to install Ubuntu tweaks.
You can download it using Ubuntu Software Center. Then run it and at the left pan click on Source Center and select Medibuntu and click refresh.
3- Gnome Themes:
You can find thousands of nice themes to download on gnome look website:
4- Compiz Settings Manager:
When you need to customize Ubuntu desktop and settings as you want, then Compiz is the right choice. You can download this amazing tool from Ubuntu Software Center.

A nice program produces sound in the range of 16000Hz to 20000Hz which is beyond the audiable range of humans. Pests and other animals can though hear the very same frequency. This sound produces an undesirable effect on mosquitos and other pests thus restrains them from flying.
I can hardly imagine, how author of this tool and anyone out there could get 16KHz+ out of his speakers, but… Moreover, human ear can hear 40HZ to 20KHZ, mosquitos 18k unto 24k, PC loudspeakers can produce sound upto 17/18k.
Hence, the program will probably kill your acoustic, instead of killing the mosquito arround you.
Besides critical thinking, it was proven that these type of things are not effective.
